Critical Thinking

In his acceptance speech on November 6, 2012, President Obama declared the following: “I believe we can keep the promise of our founders, the idea that if you’re willing to work hard, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or who you love. It doesn’t matter whether you’re black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you’re willing to try.” NOTE: I’ve provided a link to the speech here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/decision2012/president-obamas-acceptance-speech-full-transcript/2012/11/07/ae133e44-28a5-11e2-96b6-8e6a7524553f_story.html PROMPT: After analyzing the passage carefully and taking into account the events that have happened since he was president, agree, disagree or complicate former President Obama’s declaration that anyone can make it in America so long as they work hard. Note: You’re being assessed on your ability to do critical thinking, not on the length of your essay, but it should be at least five paragraphs or more. When assessing your essay, I will be paying close attention to the following: Write a catchy introduction Frame a clear thesis that explains the purpose of your essay Start body paragraphs with topic sentences Support body paragraphs with detailed examples Write clear, complete sentences Connect ideas effectively  Edit your work carefully
