Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and many more have become than just a way to connect with family and friends. Now it is how we hear about our local as well as national news, how we catch up last night’s sports highlights, and today it’s how we learn about important information pertaining to the current global health crisis. However, with every new creation, there are always some unintended side effects such as spreading false information, better known as fake news, as well as being used to invade and violate people’s privacy. As Artificial intelligence and Machine learning become more integrated into our world, these platforms are constantly being challenged by cyber-attackers. In this paper, the role of cybersecurity and AI in social media will be discussed including its importance, how it has changed, its role in our current society, and what impact it will have on the future of the social media industry.
