Health Promotion

Please answer the following questions and provide relevant supporting examples: What does it mean to tailor an intervention to a community or population? What does sustainability refer to in health promotion? ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTION AND THEN REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 150 WORDS)When considering a community or target population, tailoring an intervention is referred to as designing and ensuring the program components that are relevant to the target population.  This strategy includes meeting with stakeholders within the community and ensuring conversation that drives the components in planning.  Some components for consideration in tailoring a program include an understanding of the health problems as it is shaped in the community, inclusivity of target population, relevance, language, and cultural appropriateness and engagement. Sustainability is another aspect of community intervention that draws upon how resources can ensure program services are viable on an ongoing need for the community.  Some considerations for sustainability include community capacity building, stakeholders, funding sources, and leveraging practitioners in the field to help support progress. An example of tailoring and sustainability in my community involves the capacity building of underserved communities in East Los Angeles.  This capacity-building involves understanding the population segments that live in the area and in this instance, a majority are Latinx individuals that have been in the area for 1st and 2nd generational households.  Having a degree of cultural competency can ensure the intervention program is inclusive of the community members at large.
