Aim of the Course This course is designed to provide students with academic research and writing skills. During the course, students will identify a research topic related to International Relations (IR), write a brief research proposal (5 pages) and then develop a substantial written research paper (25 – 30 pages). The research paper will be in the form of a professional journal article manuscript. PhD students are required to submit it to a journal. Submitting the manuscript is enough for passing, it has not to be accepted for being published. v Assessment 1. Midterm grade = sum of students’ weekly performance 30 % 2. Final grade = Final Revised Manuscript + Submission 70 % v Content Week 1: Introduction Week 2: Research Topic – Research Question Week 3: Writing week for the proposal Week 4: Evaluation of proposals – via email, class meeting optional Week 5: Writing week – class meeting optional Week 6: Writing week – class meeting optional Week 7: Writing week – class meeting optional Week 8: First draft feedback in-class Week 9: Writing week Week 10: Presentations Week 11: Presentations Week 12: Revising and editing week -class meeting optional Week 13: Revising and editing week -class meeting optional Week 14: Submitting the manuscript to a social science journal – compulsory for PhD students.
