Write a 1000-to-1250-word reflective essay on an event (news event, personal event) that occurred over the past month or two, and that impacted you or intrigued you at some level. In the essay, analyze the event (what caused it, why did people/you react to it the way that they/you did, how could people/you have handled the event better, etc.) using theories and/or concepts that you have learned during this course. Your essay will be graded using the following criteria: 1. (15%) Clear and succinct description of the event. 2. (45%) Thoughtful and correct application of theories / concepts when analyzing the event (providing clear definition of concepts, clear use of the concepts to analyze the event. 3. (20%) Thoughtful insight as to what you have learned from the event, and from the theories/concepts that you used to analyze the event (i.e.: are there aspects of the events that the theories/concepts could not explain satisfactorily? Can you propose alternative hypothesis to explain the events?) 4. (10%) Adherence to APA style formatting and referencing of textbook material (note: links to APA styling resources will be provided in Moodle). 5. (10%) Overall care with which the essay is written (grammatical errors? typos corrected?).
