Essay #1: Observation and Analysis Evaluate the design and effectiveness of a print advertisement from a magazine, which you will include with your essay when you submit it. You should begin by thoroughly describing the advertisement: consider what the advertised product is, how it is represented in the advertisement, what environments or activities are associated with it and so on. Then discuss why the advertisement is designed the way it is. Consider who the target audience of the advertisement is. What kinds of reactions does the advertisement inspire? How does it generate these reactions: emotionally, intellectually, some combination, or some other way? Finally, evaluate the advertisements effectiveness. Draw a conclusion as to whether or not the advertisement is likely to have the desired effect on its audience. Use your analysis of the advertisement to support your conclusions about the advertisements effectiveness.
