Sustainability and Food

Topic: Conversations About Sustainability and Food Eric Schlosser’s essay “Fast Food Nation” sets off a great many conversations about the ways that America’s fast-food mentality has affected not only our physical health, but also the societal health of our culture in the United States. Schlosser provides his readers with a long list of “what fast food and the fast-food mentality have recently brought us” (534).  Think about and examine the various negative things that Schlosser believes the fast food industry has brought to the United States (a low-wage, alienated service-sector workforce, sophisticated mass marketing aimed at children, animal cruelty and the spread of factory farms, air and water pollution, soaring obesity rates and other related diseases).
