Write a 2000-2500 word essay on a key figure in church history, their place in the history of theology, and how they would respond to one of the main moral or theological issues facing the church in America today [your group assignment from Week 1]. This essay should: sketch this persons biography, consider their key contribution to Christian theology, reflect on key themes in their writings, explore how they would address one of the main moral or theological issues facing the church in the 21st century. This is not a biography or a systematic theology paper. This paper should focus on historical issues, such as how this person addressed particular theological questions and what they would say to issues in the church today. You should consider how this person interpreted the Bible but do not trail off into your own reading of the biblical text or how you would address the key issue that you have identified. Think about the issue from their perspective. Key Requirements: Clearly state the research question, thesis, and plan in the introduction. Use 1.5 or 2.0 line spacing. Include page numbers. Use Chicago/Turabian bibliographic style guidelines. Engage primary sources. Utilize a sufficient number of contemporary (1980+) sources, including at least two journal articlessee “Find Articles Using Databases” at the HBU Moody Library website. Then click on “ATLA Religion (EBSCO)” in the Databases Alphabetical by Title section. As a rule of thumb, the number of sources in the bibliography should be similar to the number of pages for the essay. Thus, a 10-page essay should have at least 10 sources. Submit your essay as a Word document.
